The Human Voluntary Control Atlas
Mapping the boundaries and trainability of physiological agency. Manuscript in preparation
Overview
The Atlas is a research project of SOEMT. It sets out to map, process by process, which functions of the human body a person can bring under voluntary control, what the evidence for each claim is, and how far that control can be extended by training.
Research Question
Where does voluntary control over one's own physiology begin and end, and which of its boundaries move with practice?
Framework
The Atlas treats each physiological process as an entry with 3 things attached: what is claimed about voluntary control over it, the quality of the evidence behind that claim, and what is known about whether training changes it. Entries are meant to be revised as evidence accumulates, and the Atlas will be versioned like the Code.
Findings, Limitations, and Implications
None are reported here yet. This page will separate what the evidence establishes, what it suggests, what remains speculative, and what is philosophical implication, once the manuscript is released and can be read in full. Until then SOEMT makes no empirical claim on the Atlas's behalf.
Why It Matters to the Order
The Code defines Enlightenment as including command over one's own mind and actions. Whether, and how far, that command extends into the body is a question that can be answered with evidence rather than asserted, and the Order would rather answer it. The Atlas is a research question, not a doctrine; its results will not validate the pillars and are not meant to.
Citation and Status
No citation is available until a version of the manuscript is posted. Preprint and journal status will be listed on the Publications page as soon as either exists.
