SOEMT: The Sovereign Order of Enlightenment, Mercy, and Truth

SOEMT exists for the betterment of humankind. Science saves lives. Mercy saves lives. Truth is how anyone can check that the Order did what it said. The Order does not ask what you believe about the divine. It asks what you learned, whom you taught, whom you helped, and whether the record of it is honest.

What could one hour in ten of the world's hours of devotion do, if it were spent on the work?

Americans alone spend roughly 6 billion human hours a year in religious services, about the labor of the whole Apollo program, every year. The Order does not say those hours are wasted. It says they are the largest unspent reserve of good will on earth, and it asks for a tithe of them: hours, not money, given to learning, teaching, mercy, and the record.

The Three Pillars

Enlightenment: Learn for as long as you live, and teach what you learn. What is not taught does not count. Every member keeps earning the next credential, and the Order pays for the road.
Mercy: Recognize the humanity of another person and act on it. Hours of care for the young, the old, and the stranger are logged and counted. Money given to Mercy cancels debt and pays tuition, and every dollar is public.
Truth: Seek what is so, publish what you find, and keep a jar of the times you were wrong. The Order's money, errors, and work are published where they cannot be quietly deleted.

The Three Shadows

Against each pillar stands an act the Order opposes: Ignorance where it is enforced, Cruelty where it is done, and Deceit where it is spread. The Order fights the act and never the person, and every member swears to fight these Shadows first in themselves. The Second Book of the Code names them.
